Interns
Interns actively participate in the Lab for an extended period. They support the specialists and also have the opportunity to develop their own projects.
The interns of 2024
In 2024, fourteen interns worked at the TextielLab. They collaborated with specialists, learned to operate the machines and materials, interacted with artists, designers, and museum visitors, and had the unique opportunity to create their own work during their internship. This led to many remarkable projects, some of which are highlighted here.
For example, Joséphine Basso Lacroix investigated ways to update traditional passementerie. Visitors could follow her research via a dynamic presentation on the wall of the passementerie department. Stefanie Everaerts joined us for a six-month knitting internship. On the flat knitting machines, she developed fully fashioned poufs, cushions and handbags, which reveal playful colour accents when used. In the tufting department, Fuyu Yeh explored how to ‘sketch’ with a tufting tool, creating carpets designed as woollen drawings. Adding a ring binder to the carpets enhanced the sketchbook effect. Meanwhile, in the weaving department, Lou Belbeze captured the nuanced colour schemes and transitions of nature in an artful four-layered weave with striking floats.
