Ainsley Hillard
Capturing Time, Memory, Place
Ainsley Hillard highlights the disappearance of native plants in South Wales. She photographs the wildflower meadows, rivers and forests of Carmarthenshire and transforms her dreamy black and white photos into award-winning woven tapestries. In 2024, she developed four cotton tapestries in the TextielLab with product developer Marjan van Oeffelt: Hawthorn, Wood anemone, Whorled caraway and Whispering meadows.
After the tapestries were removed from the jacquard loom, Hillard added hand-embroidered coloured details. For example, the anemones were given a green and yellow heart. The tapestries were exhibited in the Art Shop & Chapel in 2024.
