Under Anzul Sky
Artist Anne van den Heuvel and the TextielLab’s Stef Miero have been co-creating woven tapestries for 25 years. In recent years, Van den Heuvel has focused on Hello earth, a collection of tapestries that pay tribute to nature. She captures her fascination for natural structures and colours – what she calls earth’s ‘colour power’ – in vibrant tapestries made from a mix of mohair, merino wool, viscose, acrylic, linen, lurex and cotton.
Many of the Hello earth tapestries can be found in private and corporate art collections. The mounted fabrics improve the acoustics of a space. For this reason, they are also used in healthcare institutions, (semi-)public buildings and hospitality venues. The latest series from the collection is a triptych entitled Under anzul sky. The works, which are inspired by Van den Heuvel’s travels through Latin America, were created for a private penthouse in The Hague. Each fabric measures 160 x 180 cm and was woven with a split warp, creating two layers in the weave.
