In Search of Originality
Arjan van Arendonk is a long-time visitor to the TextielLab, where he works with product developer Frank de Wind to embroider birds on printed fabrics. He then stretches the fabrics on a frame and paints them. For his new series, In search of originality, he replaced regular printed fabrics with prints of his own paintings featuring hummingbirds. Playing with originality and uniqueness, he embroidered new hummingbirds near the printed hummingbirds using viscose rayon, polyester and lurex.
Finally, he painted the embroidered fabrics in his own studio using acrylic paint and coloured silicone. The result is a stunning new series of artworks that will be on display in 2025 at Galerie Okker during PAN Amsterdam art fair and at Galerie Project 2.0 in The Hague.
