Kustaa Saksi

Mollusk, Woodwose & Pulse

Kustaa Saksi has developed numerous works in the TextielLab. In recent years, he has been coming to the lab once a month to experiment with new weaving materials and techniques. In 2024, he experimented with yarns made from washi paper and viscose bast. He used these on the Dornier loom in satin and plain weaves with several floating threads. Besides producing unusual samples, the experiments also resulted in several new tapestries.

In 2024, Gallery FUMI in London presented three of these: Mollusk, Woodwose and Pulse. Mollusk, which focuses on life under the sea, was featured in the ‘Casa al Mare’ exhibition. The other two tapestries were shown at Miami Design Week. Woodwose explores the symbiosis between humans and nature, while Pulse depicts a jungle scene in which Saksi plays with tribal shapes.
